Your welcome - I know I have been slack.
If you want to read more about colobomas you could start at
http://www.avera.org/adam/ency/article/003318.htm
Lauren - I just went and checked back to some of your old posts because I
was curious as to whether she had a preferred vison position and noticed
that she is a ceiling gazer. Definitely another reason to get her eyes
checked for colobomas. Because retinal colobomas effect the visual field
kids tend to look in directions that allow them to see around the coloboma.
Of course being a ceiling gazer may have nothing to do with colobomas - but
its not "that" traumatic to look and see. (they need to dilate the eyes and
look closely at the retina)
One of the reasons that the ped suspected colobomas with Alex was because he
always head his head to the left. But in Alex's case it had nothing to do
with his vision - he had a torticollis which is muscular.
Its amazing what kids with colobomas can do - I have met quite a few over
the years because its a key feature of Alex's alter diagnosis (CHARGE
syndrome) and Alex's ped specialises in kids with CHARGE. Devon is a typical
example of how people work around the problems that colobomas cause we just
need to understand so we can help.
