[tri-med] Re: Love and marriage and disabled kids!

After almost 24 years of marriage I can say it's hard sometimes but most of
the time I find marriage very comfortable and easy.
For the 5 plus months we had Louise yes we had hard times but losing her has
cemented the love we already had. I respect and love the way he talks with
pride about all of our children And can reiterate what Nan said to some
extent. A few years back David was laid up for a few months with herniated
discs (so not near as final as dying!!! by any stretch!) but it meant I was
working fulltime - the boss was really forgiving with my shifts and made
sure that I could be home at night to cook etc, I was doing everything for
the kids and David - washing, ironing, cooking, cleaning, driving, managing
the home re:bills, pets and maintenance. It made me realise how much he
does around the home and it really made me appreciate him all the more.
Marriage is give and take
not holding grudges - don't dredge up past arguments to make the other feel
bad or rejected
not one person being "better at it" than the other or knowing more than the
other

it's those little smiles and hugs
encouraging words of thanks or congratulations on a job well done

Communication is a big part of a successful marriage
talk often and honestly
talk about your husband positively to others - build him up

David and I have sought out counselling (separately) at different times and
I think this has really helped us both.

Don't worry about the world coming to an end tomorrow it's already tomorrow
