<<May the rainbow just keep getting brighter and brighter and for you
guys!!!!
Please keep us updated!!>>
Really wish that I could, but mostly it's the or not I'm afraid this
chapter....we could sure use some more prayers for my girl.
Things were really looking up Saturday. The vent was out. So was
the IV lines in her hand, but she still had the one to her neck. The
few remaining meds were turned way down. She was more alert, and they
were going to take out her Foley catheter just as soon as report ended.
At about 7:15PM during the change of shift report, her O2 saturation
level suddenly dipped down from the 90's to high 60's. I raised up her
head with my arm, and they went back up. Laid her back down, and they
shot right back down. So I raised her head again and got that sat up to
99, then bolted for the door, yelled to her nurse what was happening, and
got back to raise her head again as she was just hitting the 60's.
Respiration Therapy was there in nothing flat. Later diagnosis was that
her left lung had collapsed. They got it reinflated, but had to reinsert
that pesky vent tube in order to do it. This one is in her nose, and they
think it will be easier to remove when the time comes.
I spent the night. Her blood pressure was a real roller coaster ride.
Hypertensive one minute....then real low the next. It was like there was
no middle ground. IV's put back in, and totally sedated. But also she
was very gunky sounding, and running a temperature of around 101 F.
Respiration therapy came back Sunday morning and started working on that
lung. They wanted a specimen, but couldn't get anything out, said it was
as thick as paste in there. Suddenly her O2 sats were in the 40's, her
blood pressure was 39/31 and they were yelling "code blue". She had 3
episodes Sunday, at least 2 of which were full codes, the 3rd evidently
was just her blood pressure going dangerously low again.
For the second code episode, we found ourselves setting in the waiting room
watching the exact same movie I watched the night she was born while I
waited for them to stabilize her and check her over, before they'd let me
see her....."The Out Law Josey Wales". That is one movie I will never
forget if I live to be 100. Twice now it's been a God Send of a
distraction,
with a happy ending both on screen and off. By the time the movie ended at
5PM
and we were allowed back in, she was finally truly stabile again.
They decided maybe they had over done it on the Lasix, and had to rehydrate
her to loosen up all that phlegm so that they could suction it out. I
threw Chylothorax at them, but they said, "No", that's one thing they're
sure
she doesn't have. She also still officially doesn't have pneumonia, now
that
they finally got another specimen to look at.
She's remained stabilized, and they're doing a EEG study on her now looking
for
possible seizures. They did an ECHO first to check her heart function.
That was
fine. So was the initial 2 minute EEG reading. They're going to do a
repeat EEG
for 2 minutes every hour this shift. Doug is taking a shift at the
hospital. My
sister finally arrived in town this afternoon. I still haven't gotten to
see her,
but have talked to her on the phone, and will see her tomorrow morning.
