I think it is very positive that he was willing to show you his stash.
Strikes me there is no malice in his collecting. Ali did and occasionally
still does "collect" stuff that does not belong to her, and if we find it in
her room, good. OTOH, she has taken things to school and given them to
friends. Like my mother's gold serpentine necklace, one earring at a time,
little odds and ends that I don't even discover missing until days or weeks
later, items never to be seen again. Again, I don't think it is so much
malicious or even compulsive other than pretty shiny things are very
attractive to her. And a pretty bauble, say one of a set of emerald earrings
is just as pretty and valuable to her as a pretty red feather from our lory.
And I find those stashed all over the place, too. Anyway, my advice is, find
a nice box to put in a central area and have Alex put his treasures there.
Whenever you are looking for something like keys or jewels, check the box.
