[tri-med] Keren's eye appt.

Thought you might be interested in some of the stuff we learned at
Keren's first official eye exam today:
One thing we've noticed about Keren's eyes is that she has slightly
irregular pupils and they don't contract and dilate much (or easily!
Right now they're majorly dilated from the drops the dr. put in!).
Anyway, I found out today that there are some slight bands of tissue
from her iris that are connected to the lens. Apparently when the baby
is forming, these are initially connected, but eventually should
separate--but sometimes they don't completely. This means that it's
harder for the pupil to contract and dilate as well (I think that's
what the doc said). The main problem with the tissue attached is that
it can lead to cataracts (maybe that explains why cataracts are so
common with T18?).

Good news for Keren, though. No sign of cataracts, so the connecting
tissue isn't a prob for now. Also, it seems that her optic nerve and
everything is okay, too (whoohoo!!!). She's a bit farsighted, more in
the right eye than the left, but not so much that she needs glasses--at
least not now (wow!!!). The doc said we just need to come back in a
year to keep an eye on the farsightedness--the doc said the important
thing is that the right eye doesn't get so much worse than the left
that it stops functioning properly. She also mentioned that
farsightedness often improves (which I believe Penny just found out
with Devon).

Anyway! Happy day!
