[tri-med] Re: Keren Reflux and Zantac: Prescribe it?

<<Red flag for us.... Friends of ours who also had a T18 baby gave her
Zantac for reflux, and soon after she developed a malignant liver tumor
which led to her death after a two year battle. Their discovery was
that one of the side-effects of Zantac is "benign liver tumors"--but
seems that combined with a T18, it became malignant.>>

Loren,

Welcome to the list.

I'm not familiar with any trisomy 18's coming down with liver tumors,
but they are known to be more susceptible to kidney tumors (Wilm's).
The recommendation is to stay on top of things with a kidney scan
every 6 months, so maybe they could check the liver for you at the
same time. We've had at least a couple of 18's on the list who have
developed full Wilm's, and another with pre Wilm's lesions. Maybe
Karen or one of the other 18's mom's can give you more specifics on
the screening recommendations, as my child isn't an 18.
