[tri-med] Just Have To Share Alex is eating apples!!!

especially as we have had all this talk about g-tubes.
Alex is eating apples!!

Even though Alex has been an oral eater for a while now there have always been
some foods that he couldn't manage. And one of them is apples. He LOVES apple
juice and apple puree. And he would reluctantly eat a few mouthfuls of fresh
apples if the were peeled, cored and sliced very finely.

However one day the other week when I was eating an apple he asked me if he
could have one to take to school for lunch. I said of course (fruit is free to
eat any time of the day or night in his house) and so he grabbed an apple. I
asked him if he wanted me to send the apple peeler to school for his aide and
he said no he could eat it with the skin on. I said mmmmm and figured that I
would get one very bruised apple home that afternoon.

But I didn't. The next day I sent a text message to his aide and asked if Alex
ate the apple and she said yes but that she was surprised too especially as it
had the skin on.

Since then he has taken them to school a few times. And even this afternoon
whilst I was in chat he took an apple and ate it - the core is out in the
kitchen (we cannot throw anything directly into the bin!!!) And OK so he will
still peel them if he has the opportunity, and he is leaving a lot of waste on
the core, but my darling is eating apples!!!!

Sorry - only you guys would understand what a HUGE thing that is for me!!!! Its
almost as good as the first time he ate a cheeseburger :-))
