[tri-med] Informed consent, prenatal testing

When I was pregnant with Richard, we did not have medical insurance, so we paid
for everything out of our pocket. I was young as mothers go and in good health
and had had a healthy baby. I do not remember being offered a MSAFP, I do
remember being offered and ultrasound, and was told it would cost approximately
1,000 dollars at the time. It was fairly new technology at the time. We did
not have the extra money for that. With Hannah I remember we had an HMO at the
time and the first doctor we went to want to do an ultrasound and amniocentesis,
so we could "get rid of the problem" When we were done with that I appointment
I requested we never see that doctor again. And we did not, I do think the
fact the Medical director also happened to be little Richard's pediatrician
might have had a little something to do with it. I do not remember if I had an
MSAFP. I do remember they required an AIDS antibody test of all expectant
mothers.Mary Capp, mom to Michael, ^i^ Richard W., Hannah M. and wife to Richard
