Thanks to all for your thoughts and prayers. We don't know much new. Hannah
had her MRI yesterday but we haven't heard anything on the results. She
also had some blood work done which came back positive (for what we don't
know) and they did another just to make sure it wasn't just a contaminated
specimen. They had her on 40cc hour IV after the MRI and started her on
10cc per hour Pedialyte and 30cc IV in the late afternoon. At 3:15 or so I
woke up and she was wiggling. Got over to the crib and she was starting
another episode. I got the vent tube in and managed to deal with it.
(caution... hospital help vent coming up.) I buzzed and asked for them to
send her nurse in as I only have 2 hands and have to hold the venting
syringe, hold the tube at button level, suction her mouth and nose and hold
her flailing limbs during one of these. No one came. She calmed down as it
passed and I managed to change her (Another hard thing to do with a squirmy
baby with wires for the pulse/ox on one foot and an IV on the other...) and
then she started in again. I got the tube back in and buzzed again.
Nothing, not even a response this time. I used the other buzzer (there is
one for each bed but they go to the same place) and still nothing. I was
SOOO frustrated I was almost in tears. I came thisclose to hollering
something not so nice to get the message that I needed help to the nurses
(we are right across from the nurses station) but I managed to deal with
everything although it was clumsily. I didn't think it was life or death so
I didn't rip the cord out of the wall. I didn't want 10 nurses... just an
extra set of hands. About 10-15 minutes later her nurse walks in. I asked
her if they had told her I had asked for her and they hadn't. Then I told
her what had happened with Hannah and how, the second time and third times
I called, I hadn't even gotten any response at all. There shouldn't be any
excuse for that at that hour of the night. She was going to check into it
and make sure that they paid more attention. She called the floor doc on
call and he cut back the feeds and upped the IV and said if it happened
again that they should cut the feeds altogether and just go with the IV.
Evidently that happened as when I woke up this morning her feeding tube was
gone and she just had the IV. They also had to put her on O2 last night
because she kept dropping below 90 and the machine would go off. )They want
her at at least 92-93) She seems to do ok on room air during the day.
We had talked to the floor doc about putting Hannah back on Zantac. (She
was on it before the Fundo.) The floor doc talked to the GI doc yesterday
evening about putting her back on it but the GI doc doesn't seem to like
people questioning her thinking and said that she wouldn't but that the
floor doc could if she wanted to. Hannah is now back on Zantac. :)))))
I'm still trying to track down who is doing the Hensinger and Cascades. The
floor doc has asked for the records of her last stay so we are waiting for
those to get up to our floor from records. I know that the Kid Kart and the
Bath Chair are already on order. We just have to find out who is doing the
others and arrange for her to be measured/fitted.
I came home on Tuesday night to a sick kid. Middle daughter has decided
that she wants to move in with us. Donn talked to her mother and she didn't
say no but didn't say yes either. Just that it was worth thinking about. (A
couple years ago she would have just flat out said no.) Then the next day
she called and told Caty she is coming to get her tomorrow. Basically she
can't move over now but maybe at Christmas or next Spring. We'll see how it
works out. Anyway, Caty is a worrier and we think that she just stressed
herself sick. She seems to be fine now.
And finally, I got Hannah the cutest ballerina dancer in the hospital gift
shop. It's about 3 feet tall and you put your feet through the elastic
loops on the feet and hold the doll and dance. SOOOOO cute! (The gift shop
had everything 20% off today!)
