[tri-med] In the hospital... again.

>Yesterday Hannah had 5 "episodes" (the hardening of her abdoman, throwing
>up if we didn't get the vent tube in fast enough, diarrhea) between 7 am
>and about 9-9:30 am... We called the pediatrician to see if she would see
>her so we could talk about starting to look at other options than just
>saying "she might just do this." (Including taking her to Vanderbilt for
>a second opinion.) We went to therapy and the speech therapist commented
>on how dry her mouth was. We also noticed that she wasn't acting like
>herself. On the way to the doctor's office she got real wiggly in the
>carseat (more so than normal.) When we got there I thought she felt a bit
>warm so I took out my thermometer and took her temp. 100.6. They noticed
>she wasn't looking like "normal" too (heck, theve seen her WAY more than
>enough to know!) The doctor was going to run some tests, blood, urine,
>throat culture, but told them to put her on a pulse/ox first. 83. So they
>put her on O2 and even on 8 liters she only got up to 94-95. So guess
>where we went and how we got there. Same ambulance driver, he recognized
>us. On the trip over he told me he liked having me ride along, I'm
>somewhat inteligent about what is going on and not panicy. And this was
>even after, when he walked in the office, I looked up and said "I never
>wanted to see you again!" :)) (I told him that again (after saying thanks)
>when they were leaving the
>hospital.

Hannah was down 9 ounces from last Wednesday and they were worried that she
was getting dehydrated. They admitted her under the Hospital's physician
group and will be calling in at least her GI and Pulmonary docs. Our doctor
also mentioned to us to see if we can't get the MRI done as an in-patient
so we're hoping for that. (We've mentioned it to the ER doc and the floor
doc.) They put in an IV last night and stopped giving her anything even by
g-tube as they were also concerned about aspiration. They did a chest x-ray
in ER but it was ok. They are doing another one this morning. They also
took a sample from her diaper as there is a bug that you can get after
being on antibiotics a long time and she has been for months (with the
accompanying diarrhea.)

We have no idea how long this stay will be. In doing her history with the
nurses we learned that this is hospitalization #8, not 7 as we thought.
Just hope it's not another 10-11 days stay.

I came home last night and will be heading to work in a few to do what I
absolutely have to (someone else is coming in to cover the phones) then
I'll be going to the hospital to let Donn come home and do his work. Our
middle daughter is still visiting but she was sick when I got home so I
assume she will be laying low today. Neither of the kids will be going to
the hospital to see Hannah.
