My oldest son, now 7, suffered a stroke shortly after receiving the DPT so I
became very leary of shots. I read a ton of info, both pro and con re:
immunizations. After careful consideration I stopped his immunizations and
choose not to immunize my others. My other two children, age 4 and 8
monthsw/(Tri-18 mosaic) have not received any shots.
I suggest you read up on the diseases and the shots and weigh them out. There
is so much info both pro and con.
My findings have been that many of the childhood diseases (chicken pox,
measles, etc.) are not as dangerous as the effects the shots can have. There
is also no guarantee that they will work and instead may weaken the child's
immune system. When there was an outbreak of pertussis in CA last year the
majority of cases (I think like 85-90% were immunized) It takes 5 years for
the immune system to develop so if I do immunize I have chosen to wait. I do
not want to put any thing in my kids system that might mess with it. My
older 2 have never been on antibiotics and are definitely more healthy than
most their age.
If my daughter does not get measles, for example, as a child then I will
immunize her later as it can be harmful to her or her baby when she decides
to start a family. Same for my son's with mumps.
This is all just my opinion and I am sure there are many out there which is
why you need to inform yourself (read, read, read) so you can make the best
choice for your situation.
