Karen,
Thank you for the important notes. I was addressing
Penny's wish for occasional antacid use with Devon as
I'm sure that she would bring a chronic issue to the
attention of his doctor(s). On occasion is the only
way antacids should be used if ever in my humble
opinion. I thought about ground up Tums (Calcium
Carbonate) and it maybe worth trying, but the evolved
carbon dioxide may be a gaseous issue itself. I know
that he doesn't like carbonated drinks, and I don't
think he uses digoxin or has any heart problems...
To my knowledge and this morning's search, it is
potassium and magnesium that are more critically
depleted by digoxin. This is why I don't give Phoebe
as much buffered vitamin C as I would like (all the
products I have are calcium ascorbate.) Are you
suggesting that magnesium & aluminum hydroxide
together (Mylanta) doesn't pose the same potential for
problems as magnesium hydroxide (MoM) alone? Calcium
balance is very important to proper heart function,
but I think a better analogy would be that it is part
of the machinery than the "fuel" perhaps like
transmission fluid in an automatic transmission...
I'm glad that you suggest avoiding aluminum even with
a lack of "hard evidence." Maybe I'm just not a
strongly scented individual, but I haven't used
antiperspirants for 20 years nor deodorants for that
matter (I hate perfumes). Just washing my pits
thoroughly twice a day seems to work fine - just
thought you'd like to know. :-) With regards to
Alzheimer's and couples eating together. Is this any
more surprising than a couple smoking where one
succumbs to one particular smoking related disease
before the other shows any sign of the same particular
disease?
