BTDT with my non-trier Molly. She "turned" colicky at age 3 weeks and
screamed 12-14 hrs per day until she was 9 months old. It turns you inside
out and drives you mad (like Chinesse water torture) . Unless you've lived
it you can't understand how awful it is. We couldn't go anywhere but my
Gramma's house and my folks. Even Jim's mom didn't want us around much as
the constant crying/screaming bugged her. Poor Alex was 3.5 yrs old and
stuck home with this screaming baby and losing it mom. And that's when my
weight gain really began.........
We tried EVERY known and suggested remedy--Jim's dad (a dr) put her on
Belladonna. It lessened the degree a bit for a few weeks and then back we
went to full and constant force. She even screamed in the car!! The only
thing that helped at all/sometimes was putting her on the dryer while it was
on in her bouncy seat. Of course, I had to stay right there with her so she
didn't vibrate off.
I don't look back at that episode of my life with much fondness and some
self-loathing for how I behaved sometimes when ready to snap apart. It is
with some pride I can recount that I never harmed her.....how sad is that???
One Saturday I was going to a craft show and lunch with some friends. Left
Jim with the kids and some breast milk in a bottle. I was gone for 8 hrs and
he was NUTS when I got home, "She never was quiet" and she was just laying
there screaming in her bassinette. He'd not been very understanding of my
life until then and had just a small taste of what it had been like. His
other comments, " I couldn't even get the dishes done and Alex couldn't hear
me reading a book to him". No kidding honey...........tell me about
it.........
Hang in and it will pass. Eventually. As long as there is no medical issue
causing the distress.
BTW~ Molly is still an easily agitated/frustrated child. Wonder which trait
came first--the attitude or did the colic form it? We'll never know........
