The gas is like the gas you get when you go to the dentist (usually). It
just relaxes them. It has been so long since we've had chloral-but I believe
that is an oral med.
Mitchell always has the gas when they do Ivs so it is easier--they only do
it in the OR because of his trach and respiratory issues to begin with, but
some kids they give the gas to in the procedure room when doing an IV. I'd
say if she has had the gas before and has had no issues, I wouldn't worry
about it. Mitchell does very very well with gas and general anesthesia--it
is really just the short acting ones that scare me.
