[tri-med] Re: IEP

Boy, if only I knew then what I know now...
I am so glad that we are out of the IEP years!!!! and Karen's advice is
excellent. The other thing that you want to watch out for is the
'developmentally delayed' label. Because of this labelling Bec was denied
physical and speech therapies. Why? developementally delayed means,
according to those who had the ultimate power to deny such things, that she
was developing normally but at a very, very slow rate and would eventually,
without intervention, gain all of the skills the other children had!
I eventually fought for and got 6 months of speech therapy. Bec's
frustration in trying to commicate with others is downright painful to
watch, to see the hopeless look on her face and especially watching as
anyone speaks to her she turns me to interpert her answer.
