Mikki,

Since Brendan is already in Early Intervention you're not
going to have a problem.  As he gets closer to 3 they will 
schedule the 3 yr IEP.  This is the biggy. His needs will be
assessed first and you will hopefully be given a list of
potential special ed programs to go check out.  Once you
decide which one you think meets his needs best the IEP is
written up to reflect it.  That's the theory.  The reality
in our case was at 2 1/2 Philina was fitted with hearing aids
and the district unilaterally shuffled her off to the Deaf,
Hard of Hearing Program, without even consulting me.  I first
learned of it when her new teacher called me to make an
appointment, to come to our house to get my signature for the
bus forms.  I was not thrilled.....
