[tri-med] Hitting/behavior

Oh my gosh! EVERYTHING. We had a Behavioral Specialist come to the house for
months! She helped VERY much with Bri's OCD issues though! The hitting seems
to be a Trisomy 9 issues as well. Typically children with T 9 have a fairly
high receptive/cognitive level vs a non verbal or very low expressive language
ability.
Brianna's last S& L evaluation blew away the therapist! She came right out
and said ........."This is an unusual child".......hmmmm I know that, but
didn't
exactly like hearing it!!

I have told her many, many times that this behavior is not acceptable....now
she probably only hears......blah, blah, blah, blah.

The time outs have her hitting her walls, slamming her door (there is a nice
hole in the wall to give you an idea of her strength.) In her defense, I also
must add that these behaviors have gotten worse with puberty. She is so
sweet and compliant for about 3 weeks out of the month then, whammo!!

I know Brianna is frustrated. I feel so sad that she cannot express her
needs, that I know I am not hard enough on her. I need to start taking away
privileges from her. This is my weakness. There are only a few things that
Bri
loves to do, and it kills me to take those activities away from her. Then I
feel
guilty for not 'giving' her better ways to express herself. We are looking
in an ACC devise-that was the reason for the evaluation.
