[tri-med] Re: Help needed

the march of dimes site discusses the use of cpap with the smallest of
preemies??? it speaks of using something similar to a canula so why not this
babe? just how small is she? she must be a decent size to go home
periodically??

....Babies with RDS may need additional oxygen and mechanical breathing
assistance to keep their lungs expanded. They may receive a treatment called
continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP), which delivers pressurized air
to the baby?s lungs. The air may be delivered through small tubes in the
baby?s nose, or through a tube that has been inserted into his windpipe.
CPAP helps a baby breathe, but does not breathe for him. The sickest babies
may temporarily need the help of a respirator to breathe for them while
their lungs mature. They also may be treated with a gas called nitric oxide,
which can improve breathing by helping blood vessels in the lungs
relax.........

My Bec has lived with both central and obstructive sleep apnea and has done

I wish they would use a CPAP on this baby girl. (they say there is not a
small enough one for her?) Makes me sick to think about her turning blue and
suffering. I would think that would be causing more brain damage. I don't
know.
I feel so helpless.
Thanks everyone for writing.
