[tri-med] Help! diabetes incipidus

Refoel just hit a snag in treatment. We hoped to put in a trach and do a fundo
to bring him home. Last Thursday he dehydrated. Aparently his kidneys are
releasing too much fluid and his electrolytes went up. They have to constantly
take blood to check his electrolytes and determine the composition and
quantities of fluid that must go in intravenously. This is something they said
we cannot handle at home as a lab is needed and the perscription for fluids
always changes. They said that it might be his brain abnormalites that are not
producing the right amounts of hormone for the kidneys. He was given a diaretic
(sounds ironic) as they hoped that it would help. They discontinued that. The
only drug that has worked with diabetes incipitus is vasapresan, but it has
only been experimented with older kids. It is not indicated for infants. DOES
ANYONE HAVE ANY EXPERIENCE WITH TREATING AN INFANT FOR DIABETES INCIPITUS?
Sincerely, Arthur
