I got asked a question on another rare chromosomal listserv regarding
whether or not I know of anyone who's syndrome child with seizures
is successfully taking the long chain fatty acid supplements. The child in
question is actually a 9p deletion, with a know myelination problem in his
"posterior supra-ventricular white matter", but well you know how these
things ALL seem to cross over the actual dx's. Please see Emily's question
below....
>You've mentioned using fatty acid supplements, do you know anyone
>using them with epilepsy without any adverse effects?
>
>I've tended to shy away from using them as I've read/heard from some
>that these could inrease the seizures although your explanation does
>make sense in that it would help build the sheath and thus decrease
>on nerve messages going astray and with my little knowledge of this,
>I'd imagine it would decrease the short circuiting, therefore
>reduced seizures.
>
>Thank you for giving me some hope that supplementing with the fatty
>acids can make that difference (even if it is little) because again
>the doctors here said it would not help supplementing. I'm happy
>for you that you have noticed some good on it with Philina.
