Yes, we had a prenatal diagnosis. We live in the Florida panhandle, and
were sent to Jacksonville, where they tried to tell us the only choice we
had was to terminate. We then decided to go to New Orleans, which is 4
hours away. There they listened to us and agreed to give David a chance.
But the surgeon did wait 3 days before surgery, expecting David to pass
away. When he didn't, they went ahead with the surgery. We originally
picked Ochsner Hosp. because they had an ECMO machine (baby heart-lung
machine). But David was too small at 2 1/2 lb. to go on it. He needed to
be 4 lb. But David was a fighter, and he made it without the machine.
