I don't think it's yeast based at all and I don't believe it's anything our
kids are more prone to. It's a bacterial infection to the best of my
knowledge.
Devon got Cellulitis after getting into mound of fire ants. In a case where
it's caused by an insect bite the doctor at the hospital described it like
this, "when an insect bites you, you can't be too sure that they washed out
their mouth or their teeth/fangs first...they have bacteria in their
spit/venom and it will cause cellulitis". When Devon had it, he came home
with about 8-13 fire ant pustules on each foot. If you've never had fire ant
bites...they're nasty! They get little puss filled tops on them almost
immediately and they not only hurt very bad when the ant bites, but the area
around them gets a big red welt and they itch and feel like they're on fire
(hence the name...FIRE ants). When I get bit, they make me queasy feeling.
Devon's feet were bright read and swollen and driving him nuts with itching.
By the next day, the redness was moving up his leg. We took him to the
emergency room and he had to get a shot and medication and I believe he got
an antibiotic as well?
I'm not sure what caused the cellulitis in your little one? But be sure to
get it under control and stay on it...it's not something you want to spread.
Cellulitis can be a necrotizing or flesh eating infection...nasty stuff!!!
If I remember right Michelle Waite also got Cellulitis after being bitten by
a spider.
