Simply go to a pharmacy or health food store and buy them :-) Michelle W
uses an all plant version, Jude uses fish and plant from memory. Sorry can't
share the brands as they are US and there are sooooo many these days. I just
stick with what we have used for the last 8 years :-)
Prognosis? There is none. Its not uncommon and so long as he continues to
myelinate he "should" eventually catch up. There is a condition where there
is a reqal shortage of myelin in the brain but thats not what they have
said - they have just said its delayed - so its happening just not as fast
as it should be happening.
Myelination however continues until you are 20 or so. So supplementation
should be a lifelong thing in my book - they arent cheap (I pay about $30 a
month for the supplement) and its easy to think that they arent necessary
after a while but don't be fooled into complacency - its the one supplement
I wont stop - OK that and lutein.
Most of the myelination is done in the first 5 years, less in the next 5 - 8
years but it does continue into the 20's - thereafter we start to slow done
and eventually lose some (thats where I am at I think - I dont think as fast
as I used to!! - thats my excuse anyway, but I have started to splurge on
EFA's for myself!!)
So the earlier you start the better. When you think myelination think
Multiple Sclerosis - thats where you lose myelin. Myelin is the "conductor"
that surrounds nerves. The better the myelin coating the faster the nerve is
able to conduct messages.
Of course its a lot more complex than that but thats the simplified version.
No myelin and the nerve can't get a message through - poor myelin and the
message takes longer and can get lost, good myelin and the message gets
there faster and more efficiently.
Life consists not in holding good cards but in playing those you hold well.
