[tri-med] Re: Having difficulty getting baby to accept CPAP

Hi May!
Olivia has the BiPap which is much like the CPap.? She only wears it when she
sleeps and has never fought it.??I am not certain but I think the BiPap has
flow on exhale and inhale.? Maybe there is a difference in their comfort
level.??The mask that Olivia wears in a gel mask and is wonderful.? It seems to
get a better seal on her face than the regular mask.? It is an adult?nasal mask
in a size small.? It covers her mouth and nose.? She is 24 pounds so I am not
sure?how that compares to Vera.? We have a white?cap?/ bonnet that fits around
her head to hold the straps and she does great with it.? We had problems trying
to get?the stappy ones to fit right on her head.? Just email me if you want
more info on the brands of the mask and/or bonnet and I will get it all to
you.? By the way, did you ever find the nasal aspirator we talked about?

Subject: [tri-med] Having difficulty getting baby to accept CPAP

Hi there moms,
Does anyone have their babies on CPAP? Need advice on how to get my daughter
Vera now 15 months to accept it. The minute we put the mask near her face,
and she feels the air blowing at her, she fights it off, in her sleep! If
anyone had and overcame this problem appreciate if you could share how you
did it. Everytime she turns, the mask shifts. If we make it too tight, it
would be uncomfortable. Also the mask, the Mini Me, is the smallest and yet
it's too big for her, given how small Trisomy 18 babies faces are. The top
nearly touches her eyes, the bottom touches her upper lip.

Her diagnosis is severe Obstructive Sleep Apnea. Thinking of giving up on
CPAP but feeling guilty that if we don't get this up and running she'll
develop Hypertension later.
