[tri-med] Halloween Respite Camp...Or A New Twist On The Psycho Shower Scene

While it wasn't really blood in the shower this time either, it was in living
color....

TRIS had a poster presentation at the Division of Early Childhood conference
last weekend (which went really well). And which also shouldn't have been any
problem, since it was also Miss P's schedualed respite camp weekend, and I'd
organized it to where it should have all been a breeze.

But I swear, I can't even go out of town for a weekend without somethin' goin'
to Pluto 'round here. So when I got home at 10PM Sunday night, Doug greeted
me with, "Well the good news is, when camp does leave a message for us at the
main desk, they come and find us!"

Seems that Miss P's aide decided to give her a shower Sunday morning, and
got a little too rough with the scrubbing. So rough in fact that she pulled
out
her g-tube with the balloon still inflated. Now there's ALWAYS a new g-tube
kit in the side pocket of her suitcase, but the camp nurse didn't opt to put it
in, and Doug decided to stop for breakfast on his way to pick her up, and then
left it all for me to sort out when I got home anyway. So needless to say, by
then it was way, way too late to get one in without taking her back to the
hospital.

Bottom line, the girl no longer has a g-tube. This IS NOT a decision that
either
I nor she would have ever made on our own. Not that she REALLY still needed
one, but she did really like the convenience of being able to make mom do all
the work of feeding her a morning can before program. And I liked the insurance
of knowing I could always easily get water, medication and nutrition in, and
gas
out. But I've postponed making any decision about it until I can tell if it's
going
to heal up all the way on it's own (which it rapidly appears to be doing).
There's
been no leakage on the bandage after day one, and now it just looks kinda
like an extra belly button.

But while Miss P initially nodded agreement that it would be okay for her to
drink
her Boost with a straw, the severity of her situation finally sunk in when she
handed
me the bolus kit Monday morning, and I pulled up her shirt and showed her there
was no place to hook it......
