Interesting...My Chris, now 23, was dx'd with Osgood Schlatter when he was
about 12 with visions of basketball stardom in his eyes. Chris also had TS,
which kept him moving body parts pretty regularly also. But our family doc at
the
time said to not limit activities, just make sure he wore knee supports when
he played. Later when he was in high school, he started having trouble with
stress fractures in his feet and sprains and hairline fractures in his ankles.
He
played through it all, was the best three point shooter in our region at one
time, and added volley ball to his repertoire. Lettered and captained in JV
and Varsity there. Also he played club ball and I was always telling him to do
alternate exercises that would not put such stress on his foot and ankle
bones. The club director was not happy when I told him Chris should not be
jumping
up and down off that two foot high box. Chris was not happy, either. Anyway,
when he went through the State Dept of Rehab assessment, (more related to
TS/adhd stuff) the case manager told me he was doing really well considered the
bone issue. I was like....Huh? What bone issue? She couldn't remember the name
at
the time, but now that I know it is not just knee related, I bet she was
talking about the O/S. Just when I think I know it all, Karen teaches me
something
else.
