[tri-med] Good News

I have some good news to share :-)) As that that guy says on TV - I am soooo
exxxxxxxxxxcited.

I got a phone call today from Learning Links telling me that Alex has been
accepted into their tutoring program. Basically its an hour of tutoring
every week for 12 months in a small group of three with speech therapy to
help him catch up with all the school work that he misses/has missed due to
illness. The best part is that its all paid for by Ronald MacDonald
children's charities!! (they also have specific sessions for executive
reasoning remediation!!!)

Its such a blessing - not just because it will help him catch up again (he
missed over a term of school last year and is now battling the effects of
residual hypoxic injury to boot) but it also provides speech therapy -
something that he has not had or qualified for in ages due to cracks in the
system. Despite the fact that he needs it - and everyone agrees that 12
months of intensive speech therapy would make a tremendous difference!! And
now he is going to get it - I am sooooooooo excited!!!! (ask Betty - she has
had to listen to me whooping for the last couple of hours) Its not something
that I would have ever been able to afford otherwise.

I didn't think he was going to get in because of the primary trisomy
diagnosis - they can't have been diagnosed with a pre-existing cognitive
disorder. But I argued around that one, because of the mosaicism (the first
time I have used that), and won because his previous neuropsych's were in
the "normal" range - and the current one showed evidence of hypoxia which is
directly related to his illness (the Shapiro's)

We start at the end of March.

So please everyone - go and buy a Happy Meal and raise your Coke to Ronald
MacDonald and thank him for us :-)) I am going to PARTY!!!!!!!!!!! And I
promise never to complain about our local McD's making a mess of our order
:-))
