Pamela:
Soleah had this same surgery at about 14 months. It was very successful and
she did well recovering. She was still very small and weak. The only
complication she had was that they gave her morphine (I think) to sedate her
before preparing her for anesthesia. Many of our kids have had problems with
using CNS depressants before/during/after surgeries. It sounds like your drs
are taking precautions--just ask then not to over medicate her. On a positive
note, Soleah began improving (apneas, breathing in general) after this surgery.
It was amazing what a little extra room did for her. Because of high
tolorance for pain, the surgery did not stop her from eating (pediasure at the
time) and she did not regress at all. Also, because she is the only one in the
family with no tonsils, she has bypassed several episodes of strep throat that
went through everyone else in the family over the years. It never has gotten
her and I think that's why. Has anyone else experienced that?
