I use to tell Philina's doctors that I thought she was throwing mini strokes, but they kept telling me that was impossible. She would wake up or get off the school bus totally paralyzed on one side, or the other, only to regain everything within hours (usually before the doctor got around to seeing her, but it WAS at least documented once by the intake nurse in the ER). First time it happened her regular ped guessed "Bell's Palsy" post seizure, and told us to just watch her for seizure activity. (And that's the other thing Gabby MIGHT be having!) The official term for the Moya Moya episodes is "Transient Ischemic Attacks". http://www.emedicinehealth.com/transient_ischemic_attack_mini-stroke/article_em.htm Philina always had these 1-5 months after some kind of surgerical procedure (but not after every procedure). She would throw a little blood clot that got stuck in her funky custom "puff of smoke" (literal translation of Moya Moya) brain capilarly system. But IF it's Moya Moya, an MRI won't diagnose it, they have to do an MRA instead, to look at the brain's blood supply structure.
