[tri-med] Re: Fw: subscribe

Dear Susan,
Hmmm where do I start. This student is non verbal and pretty much
always non compliant, lol! Actually I hate that term, but there are very
few things I can ask him to do without him yelling and trying to hit out at
someone. At the present time I am loath to take him out of the room as I am
never quite sure when he will become agitated and hit the nearest person to
him. I don't want to get him suspended from school because of my
inadequacies. Do you have any suggestions about how I handle making
requests towards him? His mom says I should talk to him as though he was a
toddler, you know with a kind of sing song voice and I do, but it is not
going down too well here in middle school. My other problem is that when
he does strike out at the other students in my class, they are unable to
avoid him as they are all in wheelchairs and one is cortically blind.

Any suggestions would be welcome.
Thanks
Lisa Downs
