Good thing he wasn't Dom's ortho. Dom had club foot correction when he was
less than six months old and no one had any idea what his prognosis would be.
And He has had four hand sugeries and one more to go. He has harrington rods in
his back to correct the scoliosis and would have had leg length surgery if his
mental illness had not gotten in the way. But that would have required great
compliance and motivation on Dom's part, and he just wasn't in that place
then. He was also lined up with cranial facial for jaw surgery in order to even
out his face a bit and correct his bite. But that also requires compliance and
motivation. Two years ago he just told me he could not wear retainers anymore,
all of his orthodontia was complete and he just didn't want to deal with it.
It is ironic that the surgeries he did not have had nothing to do with his
trisomy issues. His knee caps have slipped three times in the last 8 years.
Since
Chelsey has been having problems, he has decided that he has this problem
"all" the time. All three times he has been running or horsing around. But I
guess it could become chronic. Guess we will just have to wait and see.
