[tri-med] Re: Full Trisomy 17

Theresa, I'm sorry to hear you are having these problems. I don't have any
information on Trisomy 17, but I do agree with Fawna about contacting a
Right to Life office. As a matter of fact, that's exactly how I found the
ob/gyn that delivered my Anna. Anna's Trisomy 18 was diagnosed prenatally
in the Kansas City area in the middle of a move to Michigan. The doctor in
KC was totally pessimistic and strongly urged termination, which is against
our core beliefs. Through the Right to Life office where we were moving, we
found a wonderful, understanding neonatologist who completely understood our
desire to give Anna as much of a chance at life as possible. We agreed that
the probabilities were not good, but we wanted her to have a chance to live,
and then diagnose her more completely after she was born.

Sadly, Anna lived only 3 months, but at least I felt like we had done
everything we could for her. Finding the perfect ob/gyn did not change the
statistics, but at least we didn't have to feel, as you said, "Like I have a
contageous disease that no one wants to catch." Good luck with your search.
Your hopelessness is completely understandable; easy for me to say, but hang
in there for your baby.

Take care.
Ceci, mom to angel Anna, T-18, 9/22/98 - 12/13/98, Maria, age 25 and on her
own, Joe, 13 years old and wife to John.

I cant even find an OBGYN right now who will deliver this baby. My OBGYN has
told me I have to find another doctor as her hospital will not let her
deliver a high rish baby like this. I have visited 4 others hospitals and
OBGYN's and as soon as they hear my story no one wants me. I feel like such
a reject of the medical system right now. Like I have a contageous disease
that no one wants to catch.

Anyone with any information please email me as I really dont know what else
to do at this point. I feel so hopeless. Thank you all for your time in
reading this.

Theresa

Contact a local 'Right To Life' group for a referral to one of the
doctors they work with. Another good option would be any Catholic
church owned hospital.
