MEDIA RELEASE
11 September 2007
TAKING A STAND
NATIONAL DISABILITY DAY OF ACTION !
25 September 2007
A national campaign is being launched today to send a clear message to John
Howard and Kevin Rudd that people with disability, their families, their
friends, their supporters and organisations have had enough!!!
It is not good enough for people with disability and their families to
continue to go without the basic, necessary, supports and services that
SHOULD be there. Most people in Australia in 2007 would assume they ARE
there. People with disability and their families know only too clearly, they
are NOT there!
It is not good enough for government to hoard or fritter a $17 billion
surplus while people with disability go without the basic supports and
services they need to live a decent life, having to rely on their families
until their families collapse or die!
It is not good enough for governments to blame each other for their ongoing
failure to do the right thing!
It is not good enough to spend taxpayer’s money on report after report,
study after study, and to ignore the recommendations!
It is not good enough to tell us how many people are being helped – people
with disability and their families need to know if they will get the help
they need!
In the lead up to the Federal election, the message to Mr Howard and to Mr
Rudd is loud and clear - it is high time that Australia had a government
that did the right thing by people with disability and their families!
