>>I just received this website with great information on tax benefits.
Print
out the guide and give it to your tax advisor if you have one. If not,
scroll down to ³Tax Counseling and Tax Preparation Assistance² in the
article to find tax preparation help.
The site is called SchwabLearning.org and the article is:
Year 2002 Tax Benefits for Parents of Children with Disabilities
http://www.schwablearning.org/articles.asp?r=684&g=2>
³Because tax laws are complex, and many tax preparers often do not have
occasion to use these unique tax benefits, families are at risk of losing
refunds worth many thousands of dollars. It's likely that 15-30 percent of
families with a disabled child have one or more unclaimed tax benefits.²
Two deductions jumped out at me:
* Special instruction or training or therapy, such as sign language
instruction, speech therapy, and remedial reading instruction also would be
deductible. Related books and materials can qualify for the medical expense
deduction.
* Deduction for Disability Related Conferences
You can also file Retroactive Claims for Refunds. This means a taxpayer can
file an amended return for the 1999 tax year and claim a refund if the
return is filed not later than April 15, 2003.
