[tri-med] Re: FYI - Study Says Some Baby Care Not Needed

<<Good to know someone else considers him one of the good guys.
I have heard some say he could be kind of stand-offish, but I
have liked him.>>

Nan,

That man "stand-offish"??? I can't even imagine that!!! He walked
into her room that first day we met for her "care planning meeting",
checked out all of her pictures hanging on the wall above her bed, and
then asked if it was okay to sit on her bed. And that's exactly where
he sat. He asked about the prevalence of 6p, if we personally knew of
other kids, where they were, how old, how they were doing, even how I'd
found them. We talked a little about this support group too. Okay,
granted I didn't actually know who this guy sitting on her bed was. It
was a full room, and he was the only unfamiliar face. But when we got to
the point in the meeting when I asked who would be in charge of moving her
over to rehab, he jumped up, emphatically waved his arm, and said, "THAT
WOULD BE ME!!!" Have you ever noticed that when he smiles his whole face
lights up? Any way, he said he'd have to write up a report before she
could be transferred, but he'd have her over by the end of the week. This
was on a Tuesday, so I figured okay, by next Monday.....maybe. Remember,
I'd been dealing with doctors who took 2 weeks, if at all, just to talk to
me about something I wanted done. Ran into him the next day in the
elevator,
and he not only recognized me, he announced he'd already dictated that
report.
Wow, last doctor I'd seen at the elevator gave me a "Who the H*LL are you
stare"
when I said hello, and I'd been dealing with him for 2 weeks already. I
wasn't
at home on Thursday afternoon when the call came from the hospital that
Philina
was being transferred, as I'd taken Lara to Temecula to meet psychic Fran.
I
still can hardly believe that it only took him 48 hours to get her moved.
Amazing!
I wasn't anywhere near ready to assume my full time promised sitter
position. Took
me until Sunday evening to get everything pulled together at home, so I
could move
in. Sunday was his last day on rotation, and the day I complained about the
Phenobarb. Even though it was like 7PM (and as I found out much later, his
birthday), he went out and read through her extensive chart and made sure
that
the order was in place to start the process of getting her off the unneeded
drug,
before he went off rotation. You better believe I consider him to be one of
the
good guys. Last time I saw him, was in the hospital parking lot the day of
her
follow-up clinic, almost 2 months after that night, and he still remembered
who
we were, and commented on how well she was doing. And when I thanked him
for all
he'd done for her, he said, "I didn't do anything. You did it. You and the
therapists." This is not a stand-offish man. Decent, dedicated, & modest,
yes.
Stand-offish, no.

I can understand though how some might misinterpret. The Year of the Rabbit
makes for a basically gentle, caring individual, but the Iron element adds a
toughing agent. That's a man who knows how to take a stand when it's
absolutely
necessary. He did frown at me once too, over an "unsafe" foot rests
position on
Philina's wheel chair. But, it was short lived. And you can ask Karen
about
water signs. They're heavily ruled by their emotions. (I'm beginning to
think
that water signs make for the very best doctors. Our other favorite,
Pransky,
is a Cancerian.) Pisceans are spiritual, but they're also the mutable
(changeable)
water sign of the zodiac. I like the way Ben Harte (A Piscean himself), of
FreakAstrology puts it: "You have to give him the space he needs to wallow
in
self-pity on occasion, or you could get sucked into the negativity, and
that's when
the relationship gets ugly." My guess would be that those who think him
stand-offish
probably met that other Piscean first, instead of the one with the beaming
smile.....
