[tri-med] Re: FYI - OTC aspirin ban likely to be extended to all under 16s

Of course, we don't medicate fevers unless they're over 101. Fevers have a
function to helping heal the body. That aspect of our parenting drives my
mom nuts because she wants us to medicate ANY fever the kids had/have.

this is very wise Michelle and actually advocated by the nurses on our kids
kare line at work. You are right, the fever has a function it is trying to
kill off those nasty bugs!!! Trying to bring the fever down only masks
what's really happening and the body doesn't get a chance to try and heal
itself. KKL advise parents to only give paracetamol with a fever over 38.5
and only if their kids are really distressed, they also advise keeping them
cool by removing clothing and giving them cool fluids and foods.
I know that every child is different and this is where we use our parental
judgement to decide what to do with our kids and if in doubt take them to
the dr. I have been the same with aspirin use and so far none of my kids
have had aspirin, I guess I believe all the stuff they say but my kids
hardly ever take paracetamol either.
