[tri-med] Re: Elanor update--pain?

Thank you everybody for advice. Elanor seems to be on the mend now. Her
tummy is still pretty firm, but still not distended. Her fever broke
yesterday, and she slept really well last night. We've been suctioning some
thick secretions out, and she seems to have some plugs that make her much
more comfortable when they come out. The one odd thing is that when we put
her decompression port in her g-tube (the one with the long probe that goes
all the way through the g-tube to check residual stomach contents) some
really slimy mucousy stuff came out. We didn't suction it out with a
syringe, it just ran out by gravity. I know the stomach produces mucous to
protect it from the acids, but it seemed like a lot. It didn't have any
color, no blood or tarry/coffee ground-like substances, so we are pretty
sure there is no bleeding. I thought maybe her stomach was reacting to the
virus/bacteria she has, but does anyone else have any thoughts?

Thankfully, she is much happier and more comfortable now. She isn't crying,
and we have cut back on her pain meds. She is even smiling and playing with
her sister.

Thanks so much for the prayers and well wishes. You guys are always
there...

I hope it's not gall stones. I had them and it was agony! We gave her
miralax yesterday, but she usually is very regular. She had a bm today,
and it was harder than usual, but she does have a fever, and that usually
effects her stools like that. But when she has hard stools the pain usually
resolves itself once she gets it out.

(((Elanor))), poor thing! I know what this is like as Becca went through
months of pain before testing showed gallstones. But even constipation and
kidney stones could be doing it. Oh I do hope you figure it out soon. Is she

on stool softeners?

I've been lurking lately, very busy! But I have a question for anyone who
has any ideas.

Elanor has been in quite a bit of pain recently. We took her to the dr.
yesterday, but she just seemed to having discomfort, not actual pain while
we were there. She has a very slight fever, which may be due to pain, and
may have a mild respiratory infection. We started antibiotics yesterday,
and we thought maybe she was constipated since she didn't have a bm Monday.
We gave her glycerin suppositories on Tuesday, and she had a pretty firm bm.
It seemed to make her feel a little better, but then she went back into
crying and grimacing. After going to the dr. yesterday, she seemed to be
even more unhappy. She cries when she is awake, and her heartrate goes way
up. We have been having to give her hydrocodone to calm her down, and she
seems to be slightly more comfortable and able to sleep after it kicks in.
I am at a loss. Her rods seem to be in place, she has no sign of infection
where the incisions are healing, her stomach is firm, but not distended (the
firmness may be because of pain--she is really tense). She doesn't seem to
have any localized pain that we can determine. Any ideas? I do wonder if
it is due to her g-tube. When a kid outgrows their g-tube and needs a
longer size, does it cause them pain? She has grown quite a bit taller and
a little broader since November when she got her rods in, so she might need
a larger size.
