Hey there Jennifer:
I've been out of town and away from email but I just saw your
email about Elanor.
First of all I hope she's feeling better by the time you read
this. Krissy has had
her trach since 3 months old. If you would like to talk, email me
offlist and I'll
send my number.
Trachs are a lot easier to deal with than you think they might
be. I know you've
dealt with it before but really, I feel Krissy is so much safer
because of the trach
than without it.
All the best,
Terre

Subject: [tri-med] Elanor is in the hospital again!
Well, we are back in PICU. Elanor has the flu, and it really
knocked her down. She is intubated, and we had a bad scare on
Saturday. She is doing better now, but they are talking about
putting in a trach so we can suction her better when she gets
sick, and so we can hook the bi-pap directly to the trach at
night. That way we can be much more consistent with it. Any
advice or thoughts on getting a trach? She had one after her
heart surgery way back in 2001, but she had to be hooked to a
vent (they nicked a nerve during surgery which paralyzed one side
of her diaphragm). She only needed it for about 5 or 6 months,
then they closed it up. She won't need the vent now, but it's
still scary!
If you want to read a more detailed account of our weekend
trials, go to Elanor's Caringbridge site:

It seems a lot of us are in or going to be in the hospital these
days. My prayers are being sent your way!
