[tri-med] Re: Elanor in the hospital too!

O2 levels are supposed to be in the 90%. CO2 levels pertain to the amount
she is exhaling. They are supposed to be around the 45 % range. They
usually use a sensor attached to her trach tube, but they also can get
readings from arterial and veinous blood. They were getting readings from
the veinous blood, and apparently Elanor's veinous blood readings are 10
points higher than her exhaled readings and her arterial blood readings. I
guess what happens is that she retains CO2, but her kidneys compensate for
that, which levels out her blood ph. It's complicated, and although I kind
of understand it, it's hard for me to explain. Anyway, they determined that
she is not "normal" (imagine that!), and her CO2 and blood ph are normal for
her. She is now home, and so happy to be home! When I told her she was
going to be in the hospital for an extra day, she pouted all day, and
wouldn't look at or smile at any of us for most of the day. She felt better
after she got to watch the Nickelodeon Kid's Choice Awards, and would give
us a couple of smiles. She is such a 9-year-old! It amazes me how much she
really "gets", it's just hard for her to show it!

Sending prayers for Elanor and her family.
How do you know her CO2 levels are too high... forgive me, but I am think of
O2 levels and thought that 100% was the max... looking to learn something.
Thanks.
