Yep, our EFA's are plant based. Jim's been the searcher of supplements and
the researcher of said supplements.
The EFA we use is made from Organic flax seed oil and borage seed oil. It
has Omega-3, Omega-6, Omega-9, Gamma-Linolenic Acid.
Jim didn't like the possible problems from mercury or other pollutants in
fish based oils (not enough information on where the fish came from that
companies used etc).
He also liked the organic possibility of the plant based EFA and switched
to that when it came available.
Alex has been on EFA's for 15 or so years.
Like Aussie Alex, our Alex also showed signs of advancements in speech,
understanding, better memory, after some months on the EFA.
Keeping in mind, from his first year we started (ok, mostly Jim!)
occasionally adding a new supplement.
How it generally went was Jim would get some he and/or he and I would first
take it for 3 months or so.
Then we'd introduce it to Alex at a very below suggested dosage for a month.
Then we'd slowly up the dosage.
If after 4-6 months we didn't see any advantage to what we were doing we'd
quit and go maybe another route if Jim had found something/we had something
suggested.
And we never overlapped new supplements over each other during a testing
phase.
Anally conservative but that's what we did. (how we approached immunizations
as well, refused to have the bulk/bolus approach done on an atypical
infant/toddler because they DO respond differently quite often).
Interestingly, Jim put Molly on the EFA's when she was approx. 6-7 years old
and we saw some jumps with her as well.
