LOL - unless John is in St Louis on holiday :-)) He is actually in Salt Lake
City, Utah.
Dr John Carey has been following trisomy 18 and 13 (plus the other "rare"
trisomies) for the last 30 years. He along with Kris Halliday was a founder
of SOFT.
In the last 30 years he has become T18 and T-13's strongest researcher and
advocate, having written many, many papers on Trisomy, including those which
are now seen as definitive guides to T18 and 13. (if you need copies yell,
someone on the list will be able to snail mail or fax them to you). It was
because of John's work that the awful predictions of trisomy in the textbook
have changed - we now just have to get the medical fraternity up to date and
reading the change.
John was also instrumental in helping me to set up this list all those years
ago and is still an active advisor when needed......
John has advocated for many of our children over the years and has even
taken the doctors on here in Australia a few times :-)) He does make himself
available when he can though he does get really busy at times. Aside from
being a doctor in Utah he is also the editor of a genetics journal, busy
organising the SOFT conference in Utah next year and has his fingers in so
many many pies its not funny!!! If anyone wants his email address or other
contact details let me know and I can post it to you off list.
He is special to so many of us - I even raised the money to take Alex over
to see John in 1997. John organised many medical consults for Alex free of
charge and even offered us his own bed when we had flight problems and didnt
get into SLC until 1am. He even organised another consult with a doctor in
Baltimore and without that Alex would not be here today............. And
thats why I really would love to take Alex back to the SOFT conference next
year!!!
