[tri-med] Re: Digestion

Usually, food stays in the stomach for about 4 hours, so yes, 9 hours is a
little long for hot dogs to be there. Some of our kids have digestive
problems due to low tone. Eric, the young man we care for has this problem.
He used to vomit all the time. I guess his digestive system wasn't moving
the food down fast enough, and if it doesn't go down, the stomach needs to
send it somewhere, so it comes up. He is now on Reglan, which gets things
moving. It does make him sleepy and really slow, but he is also on a
seizure med which may be causing or multiplying that effect. You may need
to have a test like a swallow study, where he has to drink barium and they
watch what happens, only througout the system, not just the swallowing.
Good luck! I know, vomiting is not a fun thing to handle!
