[tri-med] Re: Could reflux come back due to getting used to Prevacid?

I asked our pharmacist about developing a tolerance to prevacid because my
daughter started to show signs that her reflux was getting worse while on the
prevacid (she takes 15 mg a day) He told me that because of how the drug works
on the acid production glands in the stomach it is highly unlikely that she
would develop any type of tolerance. I asked her doctor about it and he told
me that because she has allergies and gets a lot of mucous, and mucous can be
irritating in the stomach, that we could up the dose at the prime allergy
times and then take her back down when she wasn't all snotty. I've been trying
to figure out whether or not my daughter still needs her prevacid. I've been
trying to test her (like your husband did with your daughter) and give it to
her every other day or every two days. It seems like when she is off of it
for two days she poops better, but she does get antsy so I haven't taken her
off for more than two days at a time.

hope Caroline feels better soon.

Well, another thing we are trying to diagnose with Caroline. She has been
having many symptoms which seem to almost point to reflux. She had a
HORRIBLE time with reflux when she was born, but the g-tube, Nissen and
Prevacid 2 1/2 years ago, all seemed to really help.
You may recall my email a week or so ago about her vomiting blood. Well,
that went away, and we assumed it was due to significant g-tube irritation.
However, the problem we now have is she is vomiting quite a bit. She is not
tolerating her feedings at all. We are now running her feedings at about
1/2 of what we usually do. She is also having moments of crying quite a bit
for an unknown reason. She is not sick, she acts very happy otherwise, no
fever, bms are fine. I can't even justify taking her into the dr because I
know he will have no idea what could be wrong with her.

Now, over a month ago, my husband forgot to give Caroline her Prevacid twice
in a row. Then her purposely didn't give it to her 2 more nights in a row
(without my knowledge!). She acted just fine and he thought maybe she
didn't need it. I didn't like taking her off that med so we started back
up.

So, could her problems be because of my husband's 4 day off of Prevacid,
even though she has been back on for weeks now? Could she just be used to
the dosage (which is an adult dosage of 30mg)? Or is is probably something
else entirely?

I am just so upset over all the vomiting, we had been so happy that the
vomiting had become so much more rare and now here we are, back to vomiting
all the time!

Just wondered if anyone had any thoughts.

Thanks,--
Irene
