[tri-med] Re: Coughing and gagging and coke...

We've only given her the caffine-free variety.

I believe that carbonated drinks might very well help "digestion" by
pushing the stomach's contents down into the intestines. I sometimes
drink seltzer or sparkling mineral water to do this which in turn
relives heartburn while some of the ingredients in colas tend to work
against relieving esophageal burning. Perhaps the caffeine in the cola
raises the level of activity in the gastro intestinal tract; it is well
know to irritate the bladder and to cause an urgent need to void that
system.

What did the coke do for her?
[Bryan & Colleen Sibthorp] We found that when Rowan was doing the finger
chewing, what was coming up was mostly phlegm, and would often be eager
to eat after vomiting. The coke apparently helps her digest the phlegm.
