Hi Ruth :o)
Devon had his cleft repaired at 9 1/2 months....so not as old as
Matthew....but here's our experience. Devon's cleft only involved his soft
palate where his uvula (sp?) did not come together (a hole the size a little
bigger than a quarter). He was only in overnight (they thought he'd be in a
few days)...we only gave him the Tylenol 3 a couple of times because I was
hurting for him...not because he was complaining...he was drinking from a
bottle the very next morning with sutures in his mouth that looked like shag
carpeting. Within a week he had gone from taking an hour and a half to drink
5 oz to drinking 6 oz in 20 minutes. He gained 3 pounds by the time he
turned 1 yr old ;o) He was eating baby food already anyway...and did not
break stride when he had his surgery. Devon loves food :o)
Love,
Penny...loving and devoted wife to Joe, the best husband in the world...mom
to Nick (13 yrs old...lover of Yu Gi Oh, RollerCoasters, Chocolate Icecream
with Ovaltine sprinkles), Devon (8 1/2 yrs...lover of Barney, Blue, Bear in
the Big Blue House, Elmo, Stuart Little, and food in general...Full trisomy
13 w/balanced translocation 5 and 13) , and Trooper the Wonder Dog...our 6
or 7 year old male yellow lab adopted from FL Lab Rescue 12/13/02 :o)
