PCS is personal care services, basically a "higher-qualified" babysitter.
Usually, a PCS provider has a CNA (certified nurse's assistant) degree, and
has more medical training than a general child-care worker. It's kind of
like a step down from nursing, because while our kids need a little extra
training, many don't need a lot of medical intervention on a daily basis.
They are qualified for tube-feeding, but that's about it. Insurance and
Medicaid can cover it, but you have to have a doctor approve it. What we
have done in the past is find someone who we know and trust, and who has
baby-sat Elanor before (our niece), and had her apply with the agency we
were working with. The agency was happy to have a guaranteed worker for our
case (once her background check went through), our niece was happy to get
paid to play with Elanor, and we were happy to have someone to watch Elanor
so we could get out of the house occasionally!

what is PCS services?

We have used only trusted and trained family members, pcs services or
nursing care for Elanor. Medicaid covers it for us, I'm not sure how
regular insurance treats it. We have a service coordinator who heads it
up,
and we have had some luck in the past. Just a warning, though: some pcs
workers are a little flaky. Here in Idaho all you need is a Certified
Nurses Assistant degree (which is a 90 day course) and it is pretty easy to
get. Andrew got his CNA a few years ago, and he said he would be hesitant
to let some of the people in the class watch our dog!
