Michelle: Emily cried forever at nighttime. The only thing that would make
her stop crying was to be held. We decided that wasn't such a horrible price
to pay, so my husband and I set up a schedule. We called it our night
"on-call" One of us would go to bed in our bedroom with the TV on to drown
out the crying and the other would sleep on the couch and every time she
cried we'd go in and pick her up and hold her until she could go back down.
We would alternate nights so we weren't missing sleep several nights in a
row. It also helped that she was our only child at the time. It didn't do
good for our relationship, but we just became more creative during the day.
It was a wonderful feeling when it was "you're night off" After about 3 1/2
years and another child we finally said enough. She now takes trazadone at
bedtime and it has helped tremendously.
