[tri-med] Re: Change in Bowel habits??

Has anyone tried magnesium supplements for constipation? Magnesium helps
water get into the bowels which helps the flow. Be careful, too much can
cause diarrhea.

Also, perhaps get some baby pro-biotics. If you tube feed you can pop it in
there, otherwise you can get some in a powder that you can mix with water.
This would be especially helpful if he did have a viral or bacterial
infection that was causing trouble.

I would like any info on the pooping question.  Annette has always had a
problem having a bm.  I used to give her prune juice and a suppository
(babylax liquid was the only one that worked).  Now, that bowel program
doesn't work anymore.  Sometimes it gets pretty bad.  It causes problems
with her breathing.  She actually desats.  Now, she takes ducosate, 5
mls bid.  Maybe she needs more since she is bigger.  She can not have a bm
on her own.  I always have to give her a suppository.  Which doctor checks
for a malrotation?

Oh yeah, all that poop is in your child's intestines.  Once we had a chest
xray of Annette and the dr pointed out that the cloudy part from her stomach
through the intestines, down to her booty was poopy.

I thought Annette's bm problem was because she didn't walk or move her legs?

Hi All :o)
Can we talk Poop??? I'm gonna dig right into our poop/vomiting problem
we've
been having of late :o) Devon had been having at least 1 BM every day BEFORE
his mal-rotated bowel repair. And for the first little while after his bowel
woke up after surgery.he DID go every day. However.in the past few weeks he
has had spuratic vomiting episodes. He has also skipped 1 or 2 days on
having a BM.which I understand some can go a week without a BM and it's
normal for them.but it's not for Devon. The last time Devon had one of his
"exorcist vomiting episodes" last Thursday at school, he had not had
a BM
for 2 days. I took him to the doctor and he thinks Devon is constipated and
he had us start using a Dulcolax suppository and Miralax for a couple weeks
to get him cleaned out. The doctor also said that Miralax may become our
best friend over time.in other words we may have to continue using it. We
have done it.although not daily. The thing is his stool is not hard although
it is formed. It seems more like a motility issue??? How long does it take
the bowel to heal after major bowel surgery? I mean is it possible that his
muscles are just weakened still since his surgery. And when gets the least
bit back up, he vomits??? Any ideas.helpful input??? The doctor DID say
it's
possible he just has a virus that started with some diarrhea about 3-4 weeks
ago. But he never had a fever with it or even acted like he felt bad.

With what's been happening with the spuratic vomiting is that he'll
seem,
act, and eat fine until a little before the episode when he starts acting
like he doesn't feel well. Then he erupts like Mt. Vesuvius and perhaps
feels a little unwell for a short time after wards.or sometimes not at all
unwell afterwards.and then back to normal which could be 3-5 days later.or
maybe the next day??? It's had us very perplexed and very worried :o(

Any helpful input would be appreciated :o) Thanks in advance in case I
don't
get a chance to respond in a timely manner :o)
