Hi everyone!!
I don't think I'll ever catch up at this point :0( Between working to make
it to the conference and 3 of the 4 boys making it into the playoffs and
still going strong, I don't seem to have a sec for my email. I also went on
a field trip with a few of the kids from work to storyland for a few
days...something I normally love to do...this time it just sucked the life
right out of me. I missed my kids terribly, we had a PT go with us, was a 3
1/2 hr drive with pretty fragile kids and the other nurse is a diabetic. The
PT going with us sounds good....but it wasn't. I go on the overnights every
year and we go everywhere (I did miss the Disney trip though) and usually
have a great time (last year we went to the ocean for 3 days and one of the
kids got to play in the ocean on her own and we took tons of pics...she LOVED
it!!! She ended up dying a few weeks after and at her service her dad told
me that nothing meant more than the pic of her playing in the waves with a
huge grin)....ok back to the PT. The weather here has been very hot & humid
and we took 5 kids all with body jackets, AFO's, handsplints and a few neck
collars. When we got to the hotel we put all the kids down for changes, meds
and feeds...we started getting them back into their w/c's and I suggested (as
always) we should give them an equipment break while they were away, plus
with the heat, it would probably be too much for them...the PT totally
disagreed saying they needed them for support....now I do understand
this....BUT...they all have chest straps and chairs all tilt...and not a one
of them would've been any worse without them for a few hours. I was going to
speak my mind (as usual) and I did to some extent but just didnt have it in
me to have a brawl with the new PT girl at work. So we went (sans
handsplints...which she let slide as its an OT thing...grrrrr) and all day
she had the littleset kiddo (normally we switch kids often throughout the day
to make it easy on everyone)....we are getting them in and out of the van and
in and out of w/c's for all the rides and then down for changes...its the
hardest way to earn extra money, though the rewards are enormous. I know
some may disagree regarding the equipment but honestly I wanted to haul off
and whack her...or better yet....strap her up in all that body armor and sit
her butt in a w/c and take her out in 90o weather and see if she had any fun.
There were other issues but I feel I vented enough about this (I really
needed to).
Anyway....I went back into Newton to find the park last week and it doesnt
seem far at all from the hotel though I didnt back track...was just kinda
judging. I'll print a bunch of maps and have them on the 4th....maybe leave
them at the desk. I cant remember if we had decided to bring our own goodies
or if we were all bringing something....? Someone just let me know...thatd
be great.
I can't believe all that has happened here these past few weeks :0(. Give me
a few days and hopefully I'll be caught up.
Take care,
