My Bec had a heart catheterization last fall. The cardiologist went with
only a local anesthetic for the groin incision. Your Candace will =
probably
have some mild sedation to keep her still. The groin incision (through =
the
skin, muscle and artery) will require stitches, which was the only part =
Bec
noticed and it was this incision that made it necessary to take it easy =
for
a few days following the procedure. The cardiologist was prepared to =
close
the ASD via the catheter but it proved to be the wrong size for the
Amplatzer type closure. Following the cath Bec had to remain immobile =
for
several hours (to ensure that the incision/artery didn't open up and =
start
bleeding again) and was able to come home late the same day.=20
During the heart catheterization the cardiologist will be able to =
visualize
the arteries, valves and take pressure reading right inside the heart. =

Hey everyone. Candace will be going to Iowa City for cardiac cath to =
fix=20
her PDA on May 24. I'm very nervous about this - they're sending her =
home=20
the next day. Has anyone had this done to their kids before and know =
what=20
to expect or anything? She'll go back around age 5 to have her ASD =
fixed=20
and check on her WPW Pattern. I talked to her local cardiologist, and =
they=20
said it's normal to send her home the next day. I am not looking =
forward to
this, but I know that it's necessary for her health. I'll be a wreck. =
